The CDC issued new guidance Tuesday on indoor face masks for fully vaccinated people in parts of the country where COVID-19 transmission rates are particularly high.
Yet even as the rules tighten, New York City is moving full speed ahead with a massive Central Park concert next month, featuring an all-star musical lineup — with vaccinations mandatory, but masks optional.
“Today we have new science related to the delta variant that requires us to update the guidance” for vaccinated people, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said on a conference call with reporters. In particular, she said there was evidence that in some cases, vaccinated people could become infected with delta and be as contagious as the unvaccinated.
